ABOUT MRS. KISTLER

This is my second year teaching at CCS, but I have been teaching music in PA, DE, and around the world for 10 years.

I graduated from University of Delaware with my Bachelors in Music Education in 2007, and throughout my studies I taught private piano, voice, and violin lessons, as well as early childhood music classes for infants through 6 year olds. After completing my degree, I taught strings and general music.

When my husband and I moved to Kenya, I worked with peer educator groups, taught 3rd-8th grade music in the local primary school, and assisted in a CD recording project in our community that raised money for HIV/AIDS prevention and care. When we returned to the US, I completed my Master's in Music- Teaching at University of Delaware in 2014. A highlight of my studies was forming a private Facebook group for parents to explore ways to encourage musical learning at home.

My teaching approach

I am passionate about helping children achieve their full potential. I see my teaching as an opportunity to cultivate each child's unique capabilities through the art of music-making. Through active music-making that is child-centric and builds musical skills, I hope to give children a musical foundation that they can use to make music for years to come: whether formally, in a group like an orchestra, or informally, such as listening to music or playing in a garageband.
